Your web browser, operating system and security setting can all effect the way a web site functions.

Additionally, it's not just down to your browser type. Different users may have different settings applied. For example if I use the latest version of FireFox which I run on Windows XP and I have disabled javascript (for pop-ups) and web cookies - my experience of a website could be very different to yours.

There may often be a slight visual inconsistency between each browser but important factors should be the operation and usability of the website. If a visitor to your website is using a text-only browser such as the Lynx Browser, can he still navigate your website or read your image-based menu?
