Portable Document Format
The Adobe Acrobat PDF file is an excellent way on distributing documents online. The Acrobat file, or PDF (portable document format) allows documents to be transported over the internet thanks to small file sizes, yet retains all of the formatting of the original document.
This is a great way for designers to optimise their work flow because all fonts and images are included in a single file.
PDF's have become very popular on the web and are used for all kinds of documents. It is a very effective for providing your customers a way of being able to read about you product/service while they are offline. Not everyone can afford to stay online for great length of time.
PDF's may also be used to send out newletters on the web or via email.
The great thing about PDF's is that you can dramatically reduce costs on printing and postage.
The PDF file format will require that you have installed the Acrobat Reader to be able to view these documents. This software is available for free from Adobe via download. The problem is that if the customer does not have this software they will be asked to download it. Whether or not they download this software will depend upon the following factors: how much they want to read you document, how much time they can spend online, their level of trust in you and understanding of the download process.
