Can I change my email address to ...?

Once you register a name that is your name for the defined period. You can have as many email users on your address - it really depends on what your host allows. You cannot however alter the last part of the domain – the actual domain name itself.

An email address is made up of several parts. The first part of the address, the username, identifies a unique user on a server. The @ symbol separates the username from the host name. The host name uniquely identifies the server computer and is the last part of the Internet email address. The three-letter suffix in the host name identifies the kind of organization operating the server.

Take this email address for example:
  • joe@joe-bloggs-engineering-company.com
Here is a breakdown on what's what in your email address:
  • joe – this is your username.
  • joe-bloggs-engineering-company – this is your host name that corresponds to your web server
  • com – this is the top level domain you've purchased.
We have had customers approach us with an email address similar to “joe@joe-bloggs-engineering-company.com” who had requested that we change their email address to joe@jbec.com or another variation on their name. This is not possible unless you have actually registered the other domain (jbec.com).
